The fourth season of the hit British series is set between 1914 and 1918, in the midst of the First World War. Life in the house changes dramatically: Hazel takes in a Belgian refugee family, which leads to conflicts with the staff. James Bellamy serves at the front, but returns home on leave from time to time. His marriage to Hazel becomes increasingly strained. There are also major upheavals “downstairs”: Edward and Daisy get married, but Edward soon has to return to the front. Rose gets involved in the home front and plans a future with Australian soldier Gregory... ---- While the country is at war and the men are at the front, those who remain at home deal with the situation in very different ways. While Hazel joins Lady Prudence in a committee that helps Belgian refugees, Edward feels increasing pressure to volunteer for military service.
